In October 1942 he joined army, in August 1944 he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and assigned to the 393rd Bomb Squadron.
Three days after Hiroshima, on Aug. 9, 1945, the crew of the B-29 bomber nicknamed Bockscar dropped an atomic bomb on Nagasaki. Lt. Olivi was co-pilot of the plane.
He ended his service as a lieutenant colonel in 1971.


Lt.Olivi was co-pilot on board Bockscar, the B29 that carried the atomic bomb, ending at secondary target of Nagasaki (9th August 1945).
