Ensign McPherson entered US Navy in February 1943. He was assigned to VF-83, abroad aircraft carrier USS Essex. His first combat mission was on the 15th March 1945, when he during attack on airfield Kyushu destroyed bomber. On the 4th May 1945 he became his first aerial victory and until the end of the war he became an ace. Awards: Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal(with 3 stars). |
