* 3rd March 1920 + 15th September 2017 Cdr. Hardy began his navy career in February 1939. In February 1945 he was assigned to VF-17 boarded on USS Hornet. He took part in the strikes against Tokyo, the landings on Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. On the 6th April 1945 Japanese launched mass kamikaze attack near Okinawa and Cdr.Hardy downed 4 planes in a day. Cdr. Hardy is awarded the Navy Cross, DFC and five Air Medals. |
