Frank Hearrell
* 2nd August 1921 + 27th July 2014 Frank Hearrell entered the Navy flight training program as an aviation cadet in September 1941. In August 1943, he joined VF-18 and in 1944 he was boarded the USS Intrepid (CV-11). He scored his first aerial victories on 12th October 1944 near Taien Airfield in Formosa when he downed two Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighters and one Kawasaki Ki-48. Lt. Hearrell became an ace twelve days later when he shot down a Nakajima B6N torpedo bomber and a Yokosuka P1Y1 medium bomber. |
