Air Commodore Thompson finished his pilot training in 1935 and was assigned to 29th Sq.
In January 1940 he became the commander of 111th Sq. equipped with Hawker Huricanes.
With this squadron he claimed 2 confirmed and 3 unconfirmed victories.
After obtaining DFC in September 1940, he claimed next 4 victories.
In November 1941 he took command of 350th (Belgian) Sq.
In 1942 he was sent to Malta.
He was awarded the CBE DSO DFC & Bar AFC and Belgian Military Cross.


Air Commodore Thompson was an fighter ace and Battle of Britain pilot. He was credited with 8 victories.
