* 21st December 1896 + 3rd August 1968 During the Russian Civil War he commanded a cavalry squadron. In August 1937 he was accused of being a spy and arrested. During the Great Patriotic War he became one of the key military leaders. He held command of Bryansk Front, Central Front, 1st and 2nd Belorussian Front. He is known for planning and executing of Operation Bagration and battle in Kursk. 2 times he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union. |
