US Fighter pilot, who joined army in March 1941.
In August 1943 he was assigned to the 56th Fighter Group in England.
His first victory was Bf-109, which he downed over Paris in February 1944.
He earned the Distinguished Service Cross, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross with three Oak Leaf Clusters.


Colonel Rankin was US fighter ace, credited with 10 confirmed victories, 1 probable and 2 damaged.
