In 1943 he joined No.106 Squadron which operated Avro Lancaster bombers.
31st mission was a raid on the German ball bearing factories at Schweinfurt (April 27, 1944).
Jackson's Lancaster was attacked by a German night fighter.
He climbed out of the aircraft, onto the wing and tried to save the plane - in speed 230 km/h.
Next months he spent in Stalag IX-C prisoner-of-war camp.


Sergeant in the RAF who earned the Victoria Cross during a Second World War bombing raid on Schweinfurt, Germany in April 1944.
