Jimmy Doolittle was during World War I a flight instructor.
He became one of the most famous pilots during the inter-war period with his pioneering flights.
Doolittle's most important contribution to aeronautical technology was the development of instrument flying.
After Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, he was recalled to active duty.
On the 18th April 1942, 16 B-25 bombers took off from USS Hornet, with targets in Tokyo, Kobe, Yokohama, Osaka, and Nagoya. This famous mission is called Doolittle Raid and it was the first air raid against Japan.
General Doolittle was awarded the Medal of Honor, DFC and Silver Star.


Legendary US pilot, commander of the Doolittle Raid (18th April 1942). It was the first air raid by the United States to strike the Japanese home island during the II.World War.
