On the beginning of the war he served in French army as an engineering officer.
He was arrested by the German army, but he escaped with help of his wife.
In october 1940 they joined French resistance.
Same year he helped to form the first underground resistance group in Lyon - Liberation Sud.
In june 1943 he was again arrested, tortured under the direction of Klaus Barbie and sentenced to death by a Paris court.
His pregnant wife Lucie helped to organise his escape from the prison.
Hunted by the Gestapo, the couple was evacuated by the Royal Air Force to London in February 1944.
