Major Brooks entered US Army in 1942.
After graduation he was assigned to the 307th Fighter Squadron, 31st Fighter Group and sent to Italy.
On 18th May 1944, while escorting the heavy B-24 bombers over Ploesti, Romania he shot down a Romanian G-50 fighter.
Maj. Brooks became an ace on 18th July on a mission over Germany.
After next victories, he was awarded the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal.


US fighter ace credited with 13 confirmed victories (31st Fighter Group).
