Cdr. Wendorf was assigned to VF-16 based on USS Lexington. On his first combat mission, downed 2 Japanese planes, but he was also badly wounded. After he recovered, he took part in the 'Marianas Turkey Shoot' and survived a ditching during the 'Mission Beyond Darkness'. |
