Louis Zamperini

* 26th January 1917 + 2nd July 2014 Captain Zamperini attended Olympic games 1936 in Berlin as a long-distance runner. Finished 8th in the 5000-meter distance event. In september 1941 he joined United States Army Air Corps. He was bombardier on the Consolidated B-24 Liberator bomber in Pacific. In May 1943, his bomber crash into the ocean and only 3 crew members survived. He became the prisoner of war. His life was an inspiration for the movie Unbroken (2014). |
